Matchy, French cycling brand, now offers eco-friendly products.

For it’s second year and the launch of their new collection, the cycling brand turn a new corner and head towards a sustainable development approach. They now offer jerseys made with Repreve fabric, a fibre constructed from recycled plastic bottles.

Based in Annecy since the beginning of 2017, MATCHY is back on home soil. The new headquarters is a perfect composition, an amazing cycling playground that’s surrounded by actors and innovators of the outdoor sports industry. It’s in this context that MATCHY have launched their new eco-friendly collection.

Two prominent reasons have driven this decision.

  • • First a personal conviction, a wish to sustain the beautiful places we all love to ride in this world, with our belief that every single action can make a difference.
  • • Secondly, it’s a competitive advantage. It will help to spread a message to raise awareness among cyclists all over the world, and engage them with MATCHY wishes. There are no boundaries for environmental problems. At it’s own scale, MATCHY is compelled to respect the environment and to do it’s upmost to try and help protect our planet.

MATCHY has placed the Repreve fabric at the forefront of this new project; an amazing cycling jersey created using only 6 recycled plastic bottles. The tonnes of plastic bottles lost in oceans and mountains now have a destiny: becoming useful and non-polluting. In Europe only 48% of plastic bottles are recycled versus 83% in China. MATCHY wants to raise this percentage and set an example of behaviour in caring about the planet.

The choice of the Repreve fabric was not one based solely on environmental properties. Selected by MATCHY the Repreve fabric offers no compromise in terms of quality and features many of the technical benefits needed in modern cycling. Maintaining the features of traditional technical fabrics it has the added advantage of an incredibly smooth feeling when touched to human skin. It is a highly breathable fabric, enabling moisture to wick away from the skin and allows the cyclist to stay dry and comfortable while riding. MATCHY has chosen a high-end fabric for the most demanding and discerning customer.

Flore GINDRE, Matchy’s founder:

“We always had the idea to contribute to sustainable development and the wish to create a brand known for something other than just original designs. To be based back in the Alps region helps us take a new coherent start with our vision of cycling and to be more globally conscious with our eco responsibility. The Repreve fabric is a beautiful fibre used only by select brands such as Patagonia, Peak Performance and DeFeet. We are looking forward to offering many more exciting products to our customers, all whilst helping to preserve this beautiful planet of ours.”

Giving their brand new possibilities to express itself and develop in an eco friendly manner is the goal for MATCHY 2017. Matchy will release one new jersey for men and one for women every month, contributing to extend the range to a total of 8 jersey in July. The story started one year ago and they have travelled many miles already, but there are still some more to cover…
